The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has
reportedly accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the
major opposition party the All Progressives Congress (APC) of
overheating the polity.
Speaking on Wednesday at a press briefing in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, the South West chairman of APGA, Alhaji Tayo Sowunmi advised supporters of APC and PDP to stop heating the polity with their utterances.
According to Leadership correspondent, the party chairman urged both APC and PDP to stop behaving as if they are the only political parties in the whole of Nigeria, noting that there were over twenty other parties in the country.
“We appeal to the PDP and APC to give peace a chance by ensuring that the campaign trains of opponents are not molested by stone-throwing ruffians and arms carrying thugs. Both political parties should stop behaving as if they own Nigeria. PDP and APC leaders should stop pushing their lucks and realise that there are 23 other political parties capable of ruling as well, or even better,” he said.
The APGA chairman who supported the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for postponing the general elections for security reason advised against a second shift of the polls, noting that it could spark chaos in the country.
“Although APGA was initially vehemently opposed to a shift in the polls, we have taken it in good faith taking into consideration the security reasons cited by the Military and the inability of INEC to distribute PVCs to all registered voters,” Sowunmi said.
The party, however, called on the Federal Government to make sure the war against the Boko Haram terrorist group is intensified to completely wipe them out of Nigeria.
“We appeal to the federal government to double their efforts to annihilate the Boko Haram insurgents completely from the Nigerian soil within the next six weeks,” he said.
APGA pleaded with all stakeholders and party leaders to stop making statements that are capable of inciting crisis in the country.
“We appeal to all stakeholders in the Nigeria project – all political parties, civil organisations, Right groups and elder statesmen to stop beating drums of war through inflammatory declarations based on ethnic or religious sentiments,” Sowunmi said.
Meanwhile, among the male-dominated candidates, for the 2015 presidential elections is a female. She is Prof. Comfort Oluremi Sonaiya representing KOWA, while the Labour Party (LP), and (APGA), have already adopted the presidential candidate of the PDP Goodluck Jonathan as their candidate as well.
