In its bid to mobilise Nigerian youths for the
realization of the second term bid of President Goodluck Jonathan/Namadi
Sambo, the Directorate of Youth Mobilisation of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation on Wednesday,
held an interactive session with Non-Government Organizations, NGOs and
Civil Society Organisations based in the north in the historic city of
Kaduna.
The event which was held at the Quarters House Hotel, Kaduna, was attended by at least 35 leaders of civil society organizations and major NGOs in northern Nigeria.
Among the dignitaries that graced the occasion were the National youth leader of the PDP, Rt. Hon Abdullahi Maibasira, Kaduna state PDP youth leader, Hon. Boniface Garba, the Senior Special Assistant to President Jonathan on Students’ and Youth Matters, Jude Imagwe and Safiya Ibrahim.
In his welcome address, the convener of the interactive session, Rt. Hon Maibasira thanked the leaders for taking time out to be part of the event.
He also emphasized the importance of peace before, during, and after the upcoming general elections and the role of NGO’s and civil societies in ensuring peaceful coexistence in the society.
While condemning the introduction of tribal, religious, and ethnic sentiments into Nigerian polity, Rt. Hon Maibasira called on the leaders to join hands with President Jonathan as he passionately continues to promote unity and peaceful coexistence amongst all Nigerians.
The PDP youth leader added that in view of the rescheduled elections and the fact that the leaders are also critical stakeholders in the Nigerian project, the directorate thought it wise to solicit their support towards the peaceful conduct of the 2015 general elections.
Meanwhile, during a town hall meeting which took place at the famous Arewa House that was attended by youths and students from Kaduna and its environs, the state governor, Ramalan Yero, who was represented by his chief of staff enumerated several areas where the Jonathan’s administration have uplifted the living standard of the people of Kaduna.
He cited the completed Gurara hydro-electric project and the Kudandan power project as vehicles through which thousands of direct and indirect jobs have been provided to the indigenes of the state.
Rt. Hon Maibasira, while speaking at the event, thanked speakers at the event for chronicling the achievements of President Jonathan.
He reminded the audience of the importance of some strategic projects, especially the Abuja-Kaduna High Speed Rail (the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa), the massive job creation via SURE- P and YOUWIN, which he said are proofs of the commitment and passion of the incumbent President towards the development of the north.
In his remarks, Hon Garba praised the unflinching commitment of the National Youth Leader towards the Jonathan/Sambo ticket and his tireless efforts in mobilising youths in support of the cause.
The PDP youth leader in Kaduna state stated that over 13,000 youths have so far benefited from the job creation programmes of Governor Yero administration, praising the Governor for releasing over N900million worth of scholarship money for students in the state.
On her part, Safiya Ibrahim, who spoke in Hausa, charged all women, especially the younger women to reject “the broom”, “the chicken” and “the goat” by fully embracing the umbrella.
She added that it is important for women to rise up and protect the interest of their loved ones, especially the men in their lives by preventing them from being tied to drums and executed for flimsy excuses, using retroactive laws.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students’ and Youth Matters, Jude Imagwe cited key projects the president has executed in Kaduna, calling on youths and youth groups to rally support for the president and their governor so as to ensure a successful outing at next month’s general elections.
