Modern system of tax collection will be introduced in
Zamfara State as part of its efforts to improve the state Internal
Generated Revenue (IGR) The Zamfara House of Assembly has said.

the Chairman of the House Committee of Finance and Appropriation, Alhaji
Aliyu Kagara, said a bill has been passed for local government
harmonised rates and levies into law and now waiting for the governor’s
assent.
“In the content of the law, there is provision for the use of digital machines in the collection of taxes and levies across the state.
”This, I believe will ensure sanity and effectiveness in the process of tax collection in the state,” he said.
According to him, the assembly is highly committed to provide various ways of sourcing income to the state, to improve its IGR.
“If you look at the current economic challenges facing the country, there is need for the state governments to provide other ways of generating income.
He said this had become necessary more especially for states like Zamfara that depended largely on Federal Government allocation.
Recently the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said if oil prices continue to slide the federal government of Nigeria will double its value-added tax (VAT) and cancel government projects.
