Everyday Life Of Hausa-Fulani Herdsmen

Nigeria’s peasant cattle production is based in its semi-arid north. The area’s dryness becomes a major problem to cattle in the dry season. Herds are protected by bringing them down to the southern parts that are usually wetter at such times.

The Hausa Fulani are a diverse people who live across Nigeria, in Africa. They herd cattle, sheep, goats and camels, and live from the milk produced through their cows.

They create very beautiful art, including hairstyles, dress, mats, architecture, song, music and dance.

Hausa Fulanis find both southern and western Nigeria as very homely, as they sometimes engage in other menial jobs from time to time. They live in groups in an outrageous environment.
The Hausa Fulani herders from northern Nigeria appear to be staying longer in the south. They are also turning sedentary and pressurizing local resources and farmlands more intensely leading to violent and deadly conflicts with their local farming hosts in the south.

It would be noted that Sheik Ahmad Gumi, one of Nigeria’s top Islamic clerics, has given his insight over the country’s insurgency problem, the Boko Haram menace in particular.
Kanuris, Fulanis and Hausas are the Boko Haram,” Gumi told SaharaTV, adding: “The government initially thought it was a northern problem, leave them let them kill themselves.”
