After All Progressives Party’s (APC) candidate for
the 2015 general elections, General Muhamadu Buhari responded to the
certificate scandal.
Buhari was forced to answer after the military said that they don’t have a copy of the general’s report.
Buhari today said: “I had assumed all along that all my records were in the custody of the Military Secretary of the Nigerian Army. Much
to my surprise, we are now told that although a record of the result is available, there are no copies of the certificates in my personal file. This is why I formally requested my old school, the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina Which is now known as Government College, Katsina to make available the school’s copy of the result of the Cambridge/West African School Certificate. This will be made available to the Press the moment this is available.
First off, we listened to our naij.com commentators who had a lot to say, here are some bits.
Yemi an active reader said: PDP cannot stop GMB, we are still expecting another hullabaloo from PDP.
Another, Miss Anne Njoku had this to say: This is cock and bull story. This is arranged inner cacus meeting. The other things you said are not important because if swept under the carpet, you will employ those without certificate like your self leaving graduates with better grades behind.
Sir Auwul Halliru brought facts: Mischief makers there is the information from the horses mouth as he addresses the gentlemen of the press in kano this afternoon, mentioned aboved were his classmates during the exam in question and his exam number as quoted (8280002/1961/cambridge/wasc,examination) and you show us your classmate or student
Theo Okezie from Lagos said: It’s a shame that because of Partisan interest people who should be reasonable in their thoughts and opinions speak very biased and deceitful revealing the darkness in their kinds. Gentleman let me ask you a simple question,If you own. Conglomerate, a business empire, would you in any way appoint Buhari in his age and Frailty and most alarming, His acclaimed secondary school certificate to run the affairs of that conglomerate for you as the MD. Even if your current MD who has a masters degree wasn’t doing well let’s assume. Just be sincere.
While Onuoha Chuks needs facts: WE NEED AN EVIDENCE.
Hambolu Segun said: Let us move on to issues to touches the man on the street. APC, PDP we want issue based campaign. He has given the name of school, exam number and the examiner. Let wait and c what come next.
On twitter, Nigerians voiced their concern over the certificate scandal.
One Nadyx Chukwuka wrote: Buhari is buying time for more deception, We demand your WASC today.
Another, Gbagoyor Jude wrote: It is very clear that Buhari has a serious mental problem with all those that surrounded him.
Kenna explained that even though he is neutral he doesn’t think Buhari would have attained the general position without certificates though.
Still going anti Buhari was Lady B, she wrote: Buhari, who cannot remember the name of his running mate or what INEC stands for, says he remembers his WAEC exam no? LMAOOOO.
Femi Owolabi wrote: Don’t vote GEJ cuz He’s GEJ neither should U vote Buhari cuz He’s Buhari,But Vote either of them cuz of his antecedents.
C.O @stretch explained: All this Buhari certificate talk is similar to Obama’s birth certificate issue..
@Gwariboy was more intrested in the final results saying:Buhari seem to have the whole Nation with him, but the polls will tell, It’s hard to trust his southern followers.
Emmy Kanu wrote: After many years buhari school did not publish his result na nw wey den wan show us oh! God pls help us ooooooo
While a user going by the name, Abudantly Blessed joked: One has lost count of those dat are to produce Buhari’s certificate.Frm military to IBB to principal. We hope it won’t be with his late mum?
Oxford University alumni Karo Orovboni brought proof to the table, tweeting a picture of Buhari sitted next to late Shehu Yar’adua, at the Katsina provincial school.

He also wrote: If you’re still in doubt about Buhari’s certificate, get SITREP to run a check on this WASC examination number “8280002”.
While other tweeted: Show us the certificate.
A popular social forum user, who goes by the nick name, Farobat wrote:
There! Those of us who never doubted u never wished u to dignify the mischief makers with a rebuttal. But since u have sir,may God continue being with you because its obvious now that d PDP will go to any length to ensure u don’t even make it to the ballot having seen defeat staring them in the face.
It goes to also show the level d country has sunk and how scared the locusts in power and those who benefit from their rape of Nigeria are scared of your coming.
Come rain, come shine,on May 29 by the grace of God, u would be sworn in as Nigeria’s next President.
Another user however was still adamant for the certificate, writing:
General, Nigerians are not foolish, Bring out your certificate.

I remember in JSS 2 I missed the promotion exams because I was on admission for two weeks while others were writing exams.
My friends were sad because they felt I was going to repeat the class since I didn’t write the promotion exams to JSS 3 with them.
When school resumed for the new academic session, my class teacher promoted me to the next class. The Commandant summoned her to come and defend her action.
She simply told the Commandant that I had over 75% attendance and my continuous assessment in all subjects was above 90%. If not because I was sick and on admission at the Military Reference Hospital, I would have written the exams and pass. Base on these she has no choice but to promote me to the next class. Na so I take waka go JSS 3 without any evidence abi na certificate or result sef!
In my third term in SSS 1, your’s truly was involved in an accident and I was in the hospital for over three months. I did not write the promotion exams to SSS 2. When school resumed for a new session, I just waka straight to SSS 2 and kontinu from there until I finally wrote WAYEC. At least I have two tishas who can tell the Prinspa that if not because of my accident, I would have actually pass the exams that was conducted. So there is no need to hold me back. Na so e just be.
I would have spent two extra years in secondary school due to unforeseen circumstances if my tishas had not given me a special waiver allowing me to proceed to the next class, when I was unable to write promotion exams in two different occasions.
Obviously there are students who wrote the exams and were asked to repeat the class because their body temperature was below optimal level. In fairness to them, I don’t know why they failed but I have come to the realisation that exams is not a true test of knowledge. Most times I hardly have time for my books until few days to the exams and after that I try to detoxify my system and forget all the stuff I have imbibed into the medulla oblongata.
In this part of the world we believe so much in paper qualifications. The Prinspa abi na Headmaster of General Mohammadu Buhari stood surety for him and based on that, he was admitted into the Army, according to a statement credited to the Director of Defence Information (DDI) where he stated that the Military do not have Buhari’s certificate, after the same military have previously attested to the fact that they have his papers. I don’t know what to believe again gaskiya.
What are they looking for? Is it WAYEC?
Now based on the surety by Buhari’s Prinspa, he was given an all clear nod to join the military. Did he excel in service? Yes of course. He did not only rose to the rank of a Major General, he held strategic positions and even became the Head of State.
So it is really foolhardy for anyone to question Buhari’s academic credentials and eligibility for election when it is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that he has more than the required qualification to run for office as President.
It is indeed a shame that the Military has allowed itself to be dragged into this needless controversy. All institutions in Nigeria has been debased and abuse under the regime of Goodluck Jonathan. The military has been struggling to redeem it’s image over the protracted battle against insurgency which she has failed to bring to a logical conclusion. Allowing itself to be used by unscrupulous politicians to advance their selfish aims is another low point for the military.
I dismiss the statement credited to the DDI as partisan and call on the military high command to investigate him and mete out appropriate sanctions if he is found culpable. Our military must be insulated from abuse because we cannot afford to have “an Army of anything goes,” as former Chief of Army Staff, General Salihu Ibrahim succinctly described the Army at his pulling out parade in 1994.
On a final note, even if Buhari submit Agege bread label as his certificate, we (Buharists) will vote for him!

Buhari has said that he is awaiting his results from his secondary school, this was caused by the decision of the army to talk of the unknown certificate.
