Members of the radical
Islamist sect, Boko Haram has reportedly killed scores of people in a
fresh attack carried out in Michika town, Adamawa state.

PM news on Tuesday reported that the recent
attack was made known by a lawmaker and a relief agency official who
did not want their names in print. They said many residents were forced
to flee to the mountains during the attack.
Michika
town in northeastern Adamawa state which has witnessed series of
attacks in recent time was said to have its streets littered with dead
bodies in several villages.
A representative of the Michika district in the state government,
Adamu Kamale, said the extremist had been going “door-to-door, killing
people, including the old” for the past two weeks.Kamale, who said about 70 percent of the population had fled their homes also revealed that the sect members have kidnapped women, children as well as destroyed several homes in the area.
“Dead bodies litter villages. The attackers slaughter people like animals. To us, it has gone beyond insurgency. Something very strange is taking place in Michika,” he said.
The representative while struggling to understand the recent unrest after the attacks in other areas under Boko Haram’s control had been abated.
The northeast coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency, Mohammed Kanar, who spoke with AFP, confirmed the attacks in Michika, but declined to give details of the violence.
“People are trapped in the mountains but they are inaccessible. The security situation is a challenge,” he said.
The Boko Haram terrorist group has reportedly killed no fewer than 13, 000 people since it began its insurrect ion against the Nigerian government. It has been in control of Michika for at least five months now.
Meanwhile, these daily bloodbath happening in the northeastern part of the country has raised some serious questions on the possibility of conducting the February 14 and 28 general elections.
Speaking on such fears is the head of a European Union election monitoring mission, Santiago Fisas, who posited that the commission’s election observation team would not go to the northeast.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian security operatives on Sunday, 25 January announced it detained a suspected Boko Haram bomb maker and nine accomplices in Potiskum, Yobe State.
The sect members also suffered some casualties during an attempt to recapture Monguno, Borno State, following the fierce gun battle officials of the Nigerian military welcomed the terrorists with.
Meanwhile, the extremist sect members reportedly overwhelmed the 243 battalion of the Nigerian Army stationed at Monguno Barracks.
