Former militant, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo
has single-handedly picked the running mate to the governorship
candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta state, Senator
Ifeanyi Okowa.
PM News reports that Tompolo’s nominee is Mr. Kingsley Otuaro, a
legal practitioner and a serving commissioner at the Delta State Oil
Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
Otuaro is also from the Ijaw ethnic group like Tompolo. His
emergence as the deputy governorship candidate in the state is said to
have upset the political arrangements in the state as the Isoko ethnic
group in the state were touted to be the next in line for the position.
The situation has further confirmed earlier reports that Tompolo had hijacked the PDP in Delta state.
Political watchers in the state say Otuaro’s emergence will cause deep-seated animosity between the ethnic groups in the state as the Isokos were naturally in line to get the deputy governorship ticket.
But the stakeholders ought not be surprised by the turn of events. Tompolo was said to have single-handedly swung the governorship primary in favour of Okowa on 8 December, despite the clear choice of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

THE WILL also reports that foremost Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin
Clark has not been happy with the strong influence Tompolo has been
exerting in the state PDP as he is worried it might affect President
Goodluck Jonathan’s image ahead of the 2015 elections.
It will be recalled that popular human rights lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo last month accused Tompolo of threatening to kill him.
