Residents of Damaturu, Yobe State capital, on Thursday expressed their joy over the continuous defeat of the terrorists group, Boko Haram by the Nigerian military in the North-Eastern part of the country.
A cross section of the residents who spoke with NAN, in separate interviews expressed their true feelings over the Nigerian army victory.
One of the residents of Damaturu, who gave his name as, Alhaji Ali Musa, remarked that the rededication of the security agents in the fight against insurgency has given the people psychological relief with a sense of security.
He also hinted that he was very elated about the reported killing of the sect leader, Abubakar Shekau.
Another resident, who is a trader by profession, Alhaji Bukar Yawale, stated that the people have faith and confidence in the bravery of Nigeria’s security forces and their capability to dislodge the leadership and supporters of Boko Haram.
According to him, if the military had been given the needed equipment and motivation, they would have long defeated the blood thirsty group, Boko Haram.
Speaking also, Aisha Bukar, a mother of six who is a widow, lamented that although several lives have been lost, it was still imperative to thank God and the Nigerian army for the turnaround in the war against insurgents.
Another resident, who is a lecturer at the state university, who spoke on condition of anonymity, pointed out that, the country need to save itself from the avoidable embarrassments it went through in the hands of Boko Haram.
He based his assertion on the proven records of the Nigerian military in regional and international operations.
A cleric, who did not want his name in print said, thanked the security operatives and urged the general public to always endeavor to give useful information to security agents about insurgents.
The clergymen also called on residents to be vigilant of suspected persons or movements in their communities as the military continues their clampdown on Boko Haram camps.
He advised security operatives to increase surveillance on the highways as fleeing members of the insurgents may resort to robbing motorists and innocent commuters on the highway.
It would be recalled that residents of Adamawa State on September 24, 2014, reacted to the recent killings of members of the dreaded terrorists group, Boko Haram in the North East.
Meanwhile, despite the reported military take over in the northern part of the country, members of the Boko Haram group on September 25, 2014, unleashed mayhem on Shaffa, a town in Borno State, with about 20 people reported dead.
