The Nigerian Federal Government has revealed that it would try and rehabilitate and re-radicalize Boko Haram insurgents who have given up fighting and surrendered.

The National Information Centre Coordinator, Mr. Mike Omeri, told reporters in FCT Abuja that town elders and religious leaders will help in rehabilitating the suspects who were arrested last week.
The military revealed 135 Boko Haram insurgents had given up their arms in Biu, Borno State, on Tuesday, while another 133 surrendered in different areas in Northeast.
Omeri revealed that only those that surrendered will be put under this FG project but other members who where caught in action would be prosecuted.
He said that the army now have a winning strategy against the insurgents and are now positioned in strategical positions across the Northeast.
Omeri said: “Efforts are ongoing to rehabilitate and re-radicalise the Boko Haram members, who have surrendered their arms in the last one week. Religious leaders, indigenes and the school system will be involved in the rehabilitation.
“The Federal Government has a zero tolerance for terrorism. The armed forces will remain strong, undaunted and motivated in the performance of their duties.
“Nigerians are advised to support the fight, it will not last forever and I believe it will soon end.”

Omeri then talked about the freedom of the kidnapped Chibok girls and said the FG are working on getting all the girls freed.
He said: On the abducted Chibok girl, Omeri said the Federal Government was working towards ensuring the eventual release and rescue of the girls.
“It is a global challenge, which Nigeria will soon overcome. The Federal Government is taking measures to rescue them”.
Police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu then explained the situation of the girl who escaped from Boko Haram custody.
He said that o September 24 around 5pm, a young girl was spotted at Mararaba, Mubi in Adamawa State wandering.
When she was interrogated, she explained that she was one of the kidnapped girls who escaped.
“She is undergoing medical treatment after which she will re-unite with her family,” Ojukwu added
The Nigerian Army had last week recorded major victory against Boko Haram, allegedly killing the imposter who had been potraying himself as tAbubakar Shekau, leader of the sect Boko Haram.
