The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba
has ordered his Kano colleague to investigate the killing of Prof Ahmed
Falaki.
The professor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria was killed after he had been mistaken for a Boko Haram insurgent. Details of the situation are still sketchy. Initially it was provided that the police had killed the victim believed to be a militant. However, soon the police said that Prof Falaki had been stabbed by the mob.
Amid angry reactions and calls for justice, Abba has urged thorough investigation into the issue.
The official statement made public on the Nigeria police force website reads:
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba CFR, NPOM, NPM, mni, has viewed with great concern the death in Kano, of Prof. Ahmed Falaki of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.
