The Bauchi State Police Command has revealed there
were casualties from the gun fight that ensued between unknown gunmen
and security operatives in the state.
The command spokesman, DSP Haruna Mohammed, on Thursday, said a gun battle between the joint police/vigilante patrol team and gunmen along Bayanga-Dogonruwa feeder road in the state left a vigilante member of the troop and one of the gunmen dead, Daily Independent reports.
He said the incident occurred when the patrol team was ambushed by the gunmen at the boundary between Ningi and Toro Local Government Areas of the state.
Mohammed gave the name of the deceased vigilante group member as Musa Wakili, a 25-year-old man from Bayanga village in Toro Local Government Area of the state.
“Joint police vigilante group while on patrol along Bayanga Dogonruwa feeder road, boundary between Ningi and Toro LGA were ambushed by unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers leading to a fierce exchange of gun battle. As a result, one of the attackers whose identity is yet to be ascertained was shot dead while a vigilante man, Musa Wakili male and 25 years of Bayanga Village of Toro LGA died due to gunshot injuries he sustained during the encounter and the rest fled into the bush with bullet wounds,” Mohammed said.
The command’s spokesman listed the items recovered from the gunmen to included two AK 47 rifles with beech numbers: 563747269 and 197527681; 21 rounds of .9mm life ammunition; two magazines, the sum of N7,140 as well as Etisalat recharge cards valued at N1,600.
Mohammed said the case was under investigation, while intensive patrol is ongoing in the area to arrest the fleeing gang members.
Meanwhile, following the volatility of the northern region due to the forthcoming elections, the Nigerian police force AIG Zone 10, Sokoto State, on Thursday February 19, revealed what it will do to any political thug arrested with weapons during campaign rallies.
