Senate President, David Mark and Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, have called on Muslims in Nigeria to pray for the peace of the country as they mark this year’s Eid – el – Maulud.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, Mark also urged Muslims to  reflect and imbibe the true teachings of Prophet Muhammed.
He said, “those attributes of love, selfless services, sacrifice and care especially for the  less privileged should be our guide today.”
Amosun, in a message through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Wakama, implored the Muslim Umah to use the Maulud season to reflect on the state of the nation and preach peace as exemplified by the life of the prophet.
“It is only in the atmosphere of peace that we can be joyous, therefore, we must learn to live in peace with one another. The life and teachings of the Holy Prophet typified peace, just as Islam is a religion of peace,”  he said.
Similarly, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress  (APC ) in Lagos, Mr.  Akinwunmi Ambode, also urged Nigerian Muslims to offer prayers for peace, progress and continued unity of the country as Nigerians prepare for the general elections.
The APC flag bearer, who began the New Year with a visit to three charity homes in Lagos, encouraged Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the virtue of charity, selflessness and fairness that Holy Prophet Muhammad represents.
