Lagos State Task Force arrests fake Army Officer

The Lagos State Task Force on Tuesday, July 12 arrested a fake Army officer identified as one Adeboye Yelu of No 4, Union Street, Dopemu, Agege.

The Chairman of the Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi said the suspect, arrested in Ogba, Lagos presented himself as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army in order to secure the release of an impounded commercial vehicle by the operatives of the Task Force but his claim was discovered to be false.
Mr Egbeyemi explained that according to preliminary investigation, the 27-year old suspect was rusticated from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro in 2014 for impersonation and had at various times deceived many security personnel across the country.
He also said further investigation revealed that the suspect had claimed being the son of a General in the Nigerian Army during an admission interview into Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), while he had also impersonated officers of the Nigerian Army, Navy and Police Force on different occasions in order to secure the release of suspects or detainees at police stations across Lagos metropolis.

The suspect also said he was on his way to the West African Examination Council, Ogba to collect his original School Certificate results with examination number 20108040DC when operatives of the Agency arrested the driver of the commercial vehicle.

While calling on Lagosians to be wary of dubious individuals, Egbeyemi warned that the Task Force and its officers would not condone intimidation by any military or para-military officer in the discharge of its responsibilities.
