A woman who is in jail for child theft has been discovered to be a wanted person on the same crime in another state.
A middle-aged woman, Obiageri Okoerie, who is currently in the Suleja Prison, Niger State, serving an eight-year jail term for kidnapping
a baby boy at Kabba village, a suburb of Abuja, the Federal Capital
Territory, has been linked to a similar case of child abduction in
Owerri, Imo State, the Daily Trust reports.
According
to the paper, Okoerie was, on November 18, 2015, sentenced to jail by
an Abuja Magistrate Court after she pleaded guilty to the three count
charges levelled against her.
The court heard that Okoerie abducted the child from his mother who was her friend during a visit.
She was later traced to the Wazobia Park in Gwagwalada in a luxury bus heading to Aba town in Abia State.
But
police records have now linked her to another fresh case of abducting
an 18 month old girl in Owerri, Imo State, a crime for which she was
declared wanted.
the court was further told.
It
was the father of the who learnt of the woman’s imprisonment at the
Suleja prison in the media, went to the prison last week along with a
police prosecutor and a 12-year-old girl whom she allegedly lured and
abducted the child from while they were in the man’s house.
As it is, the woman would still have to face the new charge when she is done with her term in Suleja.
