A 13-year-old boy is now a hero for foiling an attempt to abduct him and his friends by a suspected kidnapper.
Babatunde Samuel, a 13-year-old boy, is being
hailed as a hero after he foiled the plans of a 55-year-old man, Ibrahim
Abdulsalami, to kidnap him and his friends while playing football on John Ogunjobi Street, Suberu Oje in the Alagbado area of Lagos.
According
to Punch Newspaper, Samuel and his friends, Tobi Ogunride, 8, and James
Sogo, 11, were engaged in the game of soccer in the evening of
Saturday, April 12, 2015, when Abdulsalami approached them and offered
them N50, asking them to follow him to an unknown place but when the
children refused the offer, Abdulsalami promised them other enticing
gifts.
But the intelligent Samuel, suspecting foul
play, sneaked out of the play ground and rushed to his home to inform
his father of what was happening. The father quickly mobilised a few men
and they rushed down to the play ground to confront the man.
It
was learnt that initially, Abdulsalami denied the accusation but when
he was taken to the Baale's palace, he owned up during interrogation and
was subsequently handed over to the police.
He has been charged to court on charges of attempted kidnapping and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace by the police after he reportedly confessed to the crime.
During
his first appearance on April 13 before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in
Ijaiye-Ojokoro, the defendant was said to have pleaded guilty to the
two counts preferred against him.
Abdulsalami was eventually handed three months in prison by the presiding magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Olayinka.
