A nine-year-old girl who was kept as a sex slave by Isis is pregnant after being raped by 10 ISIS militants, Kirkuk, northern Iraq.
The
Yazidi girl has recently been released after nearly a year as a
prisoner in the Islamic State, where women and young girls from the
religious minority are known to be kept in captivity as ‘sex
slaves’. The girl, whose name is not disclosed, was among 227 Yazidis
women, children and elderly released last week.
“Most
of them were front-line fighters or suicide bombers who are given girls
as a reward. This girl is so young she could die if she delivers a
baby. Even a caesarian section is dangerous. The abuse she has suffered
left her mentally and physically traumatized,” Yousif Daoud, a
Canadian-based aid worker said. The nine-year-old was taken to Germany
by a Kurdish charity earlier this week, where she is receiving medical
care.
The
Yazidis were captured last June and finally crossed into Kurdistan on
Wednesday. Around 40,000 people were kidnapped at gunpoint when Islamic
State fighters attacked Yazidi villages last summer. Hundreds have been
able to return, either by fleeing or being set free by ISIS, and the
nine-year-old is among them.
