Mimiko To Sustain Level Of Education, Health Care

The Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has reaffirmed his administration’s the commitment to increasing access to education through the introduction of affordable school fees and health services without compromising standard.

According to the Leadership Newspaper, Mimiko assured that the age-old conflict between access and quality service across the 18 local governments in the state will be settled.
Mimiko was said to have stated this during a send-off dinner in honour of the immediate past vice chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Prof Femi Mimiko, in Akure, at the weekend.

Governor Mimiko saluted Prof Mimiko for justifying the confidence reposed in him when he was appointed as VC and for being a worthy ambassador of the family by demonstrating quality leadership at AAUA without compromising standard.
He also assured the new VC, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, of the government’s continuous support to sustain the standard of excellence in the university.
Mimiko said, “Despite the shrinking resources, we will still do what is necessary to sustain the existing standard. We will give the new VC the necessary support. I will not send any name to you (new VC) for admission or for staff promotion. We will support you to continue on the merit-driven admission.”
He also pledged that government would rally round the Governing Council to enable it make meaningful impact on the university.
Recently, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Chief Sanya Orungbemi, and 5,000 others from the Akoko North East local government area of the state have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC)  barely 24 hours after President Goodluck Jonathan had campaigned in Ondo State.
