In a bid to prevent a violence prone elections during
next month’s all important general elections across Nigeria, the Youth
Mobilisation of Goodluck Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation on
Wednesday launched “Say No To Electoral Violence Initiative” in Sokoto,
northern Nigeria.
The event, which took place at the town hall meeting in the caliphate
city of Sokoto, was attended by many dignitaries which included the
National youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rt Hon.
Abdullahi H. MaiBasira, Former NANS Senate President, Abdullahi Ali
Kano, PDP youth leader in Sokoto, Alhaji Nasiru and Zamfara state youth
leader, comrade Yusuf Alhassan Kanoma.
Others that graced the occasion were the Kebbi State PDP youth leader, Alhaji Sani Haruna, the Speaker Nigerian Youth Parliament, Alhaji Abba Waziri , Representative of women youth groups, PDP Local government and ward leaders among many others.
While speaking at the event which was held at Sokoto Hotel, Rt Hon.
MaiBasira, who doubles as the Director of the Directorate of Youth
Mobilisation of Goodluck Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation,
condemned the activities of miscreants which he said have constituted
themselves into nuisance to the electoral process.
He called on Nigerian youths to avoid religious politics and vote massively for President Goodluck Jonathan and PDP candidates at all levels come next month’s polls.
On his part, Abdullahi Ali Kano, who was a delegate to the just concluded National Conference, reminded the youths especially students on the need to avoid divisive politics.
The former NAN senate president enumerated the contributions of Jonathan’s administration to the development of northern Nigeria and the country as a whole.
He cited the establishment of 9 out of the 12 Federal Universities in the North, the massive investment in Almajiri education and agriculture among many legacies of the present Federal Government led by President Jonathan.
Also, the PDP louth Leader in Sokoto, Alhaji Nasiru commended
MaiBasira for his continuous support for the PDP youths in the state,
calling on all youths to rally behind him and President Jonathan.
Comrade Kanoma in his remarks lamented the activities of those campaigning against President Jonathan because he is a christian.
He urged all youths to reject deceit and rally behind the President in his quest for a second term.
Meanwhile, the youth leader in Wamakko local government assured that they have rejected the call by their local leaders to vote along religious lines, saying a vote for APC is a vote for backwardness.
He also praised President Jonathan for outlawing homosexuality in Nigeria.

It would be recalled that on January 23, 2015, Friday, the ancient
city of Calabar, the capital of Cross River State was agog as the youth wing of PDP stormed the city in continuation of their nationwide tour mobilising youths to support President Jonathan’s re-election bid.
The event, which was held at the Cultural Centre in Calabar, was led by PDP’s National Youth Leader, Hon Abdullahi Husseini MaiBasira and Jude Imagwe, the Senior Special Assistant to President Jonathan on Students and Youth Affairs.
Also at the South-South/South East zonal rally were Governor Liyel
Imoke of Cross River state, students union executives of tertiary
institutions in the zone and executives of National Youth Council of
Nigeria.
