Failed PDP Lagos state guber aspirant, Musiliu
Obanikoro has been nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan for minister
along with six other individuals.
African Independent Television [AIT] is reporting that Jonathan nominated the former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, Kenneth Kobani and Patrick Akwashiki.
Obanikoro had lost the Lagos gubernatorial primaries of the Peoples
Democratic Party [PDP], to Jimi Agbaje despite resigning his ministerial
position on October 15.
Jimi Agaba, a relatively less known candidate was fortunate to have the backing of PDP’s most powerful leaders in Lagos.
Obanikoro had earlier rejected the results and challenged the declaration of Mr. Agbaje as winner.
He later gave up on his challenge for the benefit of the party who are fighting an APC with a strong Lagos base.
Some allege that Obanikoro gave up his challenge because President Goodluck Jonathan promised him, he would reappoint him to his cabinet.
Obanikoro wasn’t the only ex-minister to leave his position for guber tickets and fail.
Emeka Wogu, Labaran Maku, Onyebuchi Chukwu, and Samuel Ortom, also lost their bids after leaving their posts to contest in their respective states.
