As Nigeria prepares for her general elections in less
than one month, the political terrain of the country is expected to
witness a drastic change, especially as political gladiators roll out
their campaign train to storm various states across the nation to create
awareness as well as solicit for votes.

It is however expected that while these campaign activities are ongoing across the country, there might be a possible clash of interest among top political figures or their supporters. It was in a bid to curb such occurrences that propelled the recently signed peace pact between President Goodluck Jonathan of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Presidential
candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari.
But, the peace pact that was signed last week against election violence might have been hampered following Governor Ayo Fayose’s Monday morning front page advert on the Punch and Daily Sun newspapers.
The reported avert had the heads of three deceased former head of state that are Muslims and Northerners together in images and suggested that what happened to them may happen to Buhari if elected into office in February 14 presidential election.
Buhari in a reaction to the reported advert asserted that if till now, there is no denouncement of the post from PDP and Mr. President; it means that they support it since Fayose is the front man for GEJ’s campaign as well as a stakeholder of the ruling party.
The former head of state categorically stated that Jonathan through the insensitivity of the advert is the first to break the peace pact.
Meanwhile, some concerned Nigerians noted that there is an urgent need to revisit the said peace pact, especially as the Presidential Campaign Organisation of the APC recently attacked the PDP for circulating a fake medical report on Buhari.
Some Nigerians who spoke with Naij.com like, Samuel, who is a teacher in one of the private schools around Ipaja, Lagos State, he opined that there was never a peace pact, adding that if there was, the ruling party and opposition should have stopped casting aspersions on each other by now and concentrates more on their campaigns.
Chidi, who is a journalist, expressed believe that Jonathan and Buhari were forced into signing the peace pact, adding that if it was really from the debt of their heart, they (Party leaders) would have stopped lashing and insulting themselves and focus more on what they can do for Nigerians.
Adewale, a marketer with a telecom company, expressed optimism that the peace pact is still intact because the elections were not yet conducted, adding that Nigerians will find out after the polls.
He, however, pointed out that the body language of Mr. President and his supporters indicate that the peace pact might not really be given attention as PDP has continued to lash Buhari with his health status, age, religion, ethnicity as well as wishing him dead in a publication.
