The supporters of the presidential aspirant Major-General Muhammadu Buhari
in the UK have given money and equipment to his campaign on the
platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in February poll.
They organized a special welcome in London joined by a member of his presidential campaign team Hon Farouk Aliyu.
About 200 members of the UK diaspora, who all promised their commitment to change, gave over money, laptops, phones and other equipment to Hon Aliyu to take back to Nigeria.
Firstly, APC candidate himself had scheduled to join the event but
the
recent visit of US secretary of state John Kerry and the change to his campaign plan meant he could not travel abroad.
Hon Aliyu, who presents General, assured to pass on everything that was said.
He said: “We wanted to travel to the Vatican, the US and the UK but the campaign did not allow us as we wanted to finish it on January 31 but now this has been extended to February 5. So, unfortunately, the General could not make this trip as planned but if time permits before the elections, he will make the trips.
“Whatever the case, after the elections, after he has won, he will certainly come here to say thank you. Most of you that are outside the country surely hope to go back home and by the grace of God, we shall put most things right so you can return.”
According to Hon Aliyu, fighting corruption, providing security and stopping youth unemployment will be key issues for a new administration.
He also forcefully dismissed allegations that general Buhari was a Muslim despot or would relegate Christians if he won.
Hon Aliyu advised Nigerians in the UK to call their family members back home and tell them to vote for APC candidate.
He added: “There are 120,000 polling units in Nigeria and we will have Androids at each polling station to provide real time results.
We are also urging people to stay at the polling station after voting to ensure that they protect their votes.”
Councillor Adedamola Aminu, while speaking on behalf of members of Nigerian diaspora, said the UK diaspora remits $7.6bn annually to Nigeria, while the wider diaspora remits $21bn a year, making them big contributors to the economy and as such should enjoy the same rights as every other Nigerian.
Meanwhile, Nigerians in USA has also expressed their support for the presidential aspirant of the APC.
