Former head of state, Gen Muhammadu Buhar, who is the
candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next month’s
presidential elections in Nigeria, has been advised not to participate
in the polls because he is too old to rule Nigeria again.
Making this statement at the weekend in Warri, Delta State, was the presiding Patriarch of Flock of Christ Mission International, Bishop Simeon Okah.
The clergyman, who is famous in the South-South of Nigeria, advised the 72-year-old Buhari to sit down because he is too old.
While giving reasons Nigerians should not vote for Buhari, Bishop Okah said: “At his age, I have the desire and cry for the youth of Nigeria. Buhari will not communicate with these young ones. He will not feel what they feel, I prefer a younger person to him, who is educated.”
He added that, “Now Buhari is saying he will fight insurgency,
that he will use the army. When he was a general in the army and Head of
State, he was not able to handle the army when they staged a coup. Is
it not coup that sacked him?
“If he was a general and a commander- in -chief, why did that happen? Not now in a democracy, you know in a democracy, it is difficult when compared to military rule. So in military rule, he was not able to have a grip on the army, Buhari knows in his heart of heart that he cannot.
“Thirdly, I cannot trust Buhari. How many times has he said that he would not come back after losing elections in the past, he came back the other day. How can I trust him? I will have difficulty to trust him.
“Buhari, whether he accepts it or not, he is religious extremist. If he thinks some of us have forgotten, the other day when he lost election, he said that if he loses election, he will make Nigeria ungovernable, today, North-East is ungovernable. Buhari has to make a confession and he needs to apologize to this country.”
On another clergyman being the running mate of Gen Buhari, Bishop Okah said: “I
pity my brother, the professor and SAN, Yemi Osinbajo, a senior pastor
at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, I don’t think he heard
from God.
“He forgot how Buhari handled Pastor Tunde Bakare. Go and sit with Bakare, some things Bakare cannot publicly say, how Buhari dumped him. Do you hear Bakare talk about Buhari? On these four points, I will personally mobilize the youths and the church against Buhari.”
In a related development, the governor of Plateau state, Jonah David Jang, has asked Gen Buhari to give up on his presidential ambition.

Jang, who spoke at the PDP Northern Zone Plateau State women’s rally
held at the weekend at the WAYE Foundation, Doi, Jos South Local
Government Area of Plateau State, stated that Buhari should withdraw
from the race as he has contested three times for the post and failed.
“I believe that Baba Buhari should surrender. He is a great Nigerian. He was a military Head of State; we fought the civil war together. But Nigerians are saying allow us. He should find out why they are saying ‘allow us’,” he said.
According to the governor, the majority of the people in the APC were members of the PDP before they defected.

Meanwhile, Damishi Sango, former minister of sport, had earlier declared that the people of Plateau State will vote for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the general elections.
A group with the name, Middle Belt Dialogue (MBD), also voiced their support for President Jonathan, saying they will vote for him even though he disappointed the zone during his first term in office.
Buhari, a former head of state, in December 2014 emerged as the presidential candidate of the APC for the 2015 elections.
Buhari has been contesting for the presidency since 2003, and has been beaten by the PDP three consecutive times.
