Reports just coming out of Maiduguri, Borno state
inform that President Goodluck Jonathan has just landed in Maiduguri
Airport in a surprise visit to the hotbed of Boko Haram’s insurgency.
According to Daily Trust report, the Chief of Defense staff, Air Vice Marshall Alex Badeh and National Security adviser, Sambo Dasuki also arrived the airport in a separate aircraft.

It was gathered that Governor Kashim Shettima arrived the airport to receive the president.
As at the time of compiling this report, the details of President Jonathan’s visit to Maiduguri are still unknown.
However, a source who asked not to be named because he was not authorised to speak on the visit, told Premium Times that Jonathan left for Borno State after attending the Armed Forces Remembrance in Abuja.
He also added that the President and the service chiefs will meet with troops in the north east state.
“The president and the service chiefs left for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport shortly after the ceremony at the National Arcade,” said the source.
“They will be meeting with troops and some community leaders before coming back to Abuja later in the day.”
It would be recalled that Jonathan has come under severe criticisms over the handling of the fight against the Boko Haram group.
The president has also been criticised for not meeting with troops who complained of poor equipment and funding for the war.
The Islamist militants sect, Boko Haram, has claimed thousands of lives in Borno since it started its insurgency in 2009.
The Islamist sect has killed over 13, 000 Nigerians since 2009 and has seized dozens of towns and villages in Northeast Nigeria.
Only last week, Boko Haram insurgents were reported to have killed at least 150 people in Baga town in Borno State.
