As some Nigerians continue to express pessimism on the preparedness of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the February 14 and 28 general elections, a prominent figure and a former governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa has joined such calls.

The Nation reports that the first Executive Governor of old Kaduna State on Tuesday, explained that the postponement of next month’s elections is very imperative in order to enable the INEC prepare very well for the exercise.
Contrary to Balarabe Musa’s positions, Comrade Isa Aremu, who is the vice president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in a quick response, insisted that INEC is adequately prepared to conduct the elections.
Musa who spoke at the launching of four books written by Aremu in Kaduna, opined that since INEC may not be able to distribute the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to eligible voters before the elections, it would be proper for the commission to postpone the exercise by more 60 days in order to address the issue.
The former governor further pointed out that for INEC to be able to conduct free, fair and credible elections that the outcome would be generally acceptable, it must not ignore the need for young people who are just turned 18 years to be captured in the whole process.
But, Aremu on his own part was of the opinion that since the electoral commission has insisted that it has no challenge that is beyond its control, elections would still hold as scheduled.
“INEC is doing very well. We should not because of insignificant challenges derail the entire timetable which has proven to be largely successful. We cannot be holier than the Pope. I think we should stick to deadline given by the INEC. We should encourage them to have printed and distribute the PVCs to over 70 per cent of voters. We should encourage them to arrive at their destination,” he said.
It would be recalled that Musa, had earlier stated that the timetable released by the INEC for the 2015 general elections should ensure there is enough time to conclude litigations before the inauguration of elected officials.
The former governor also recently accused the Federal Government of conspiracy and cover-up in the abduction of the over 234 school girls from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.
