APC Petitions Police Over Fayose’s Death-Wish To Buhari

The campaign organization of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, over the gloomy adverts by Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti State Governor.
This was issued in press release by the opposition party.

The APC Presidential Campaign Organisation has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, over the morbid advert sponsored by Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, and published on the cover pages of two national dailies of 19th January, 2015,” it was said in a statement.
The petition was signed by the Governor of Rivers State and Director General of the Campaign, Rotimi Amaechi, the APC Presidential Campaign.
Amaechi criticized ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Ekiti Governor for representing its candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari as a dead man walking to scare Nigerians from voting for him in the February 14 poll.
According to the appeal, “the portrayal of Mr. Buhari as a likely to die in office just like past northern leaders such as Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, General Sani Abacha and General Murtala Mohammed was “morbid and reckless” and that such irresponsible political advert is not only “in bad taste, but also capable of undermining law and order in the country.”
The strongly-worded appeal said that insinuating death for a man who is still alive based on intuitive logic or forecast is accomplished of causing a break of the peace across Nigeria.
The party’s appeal also put the attention of Mr. Abba to the fact that Fayose’s advertorial dishonored the spirit and letter of the Ambassador Kofi Annan initiative which, which had Nigerian political parties and their presidential candidates sign a peace accord.

The press release continued: “It therefore urged the IGP to investigate the origin of Mr. Fayose’s “sinister and inhuman” advert and call him to order with a view to preventing a repeat of such provocative publication in the interest of peace.
“The APC Campaign said that copies of the petition have been sent to the Department of State Security (DSS), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) and The Sun and The Punch newspapers.”
APC recently accused their opponents from the ruling PDP of violating peace pact signed on January 14 between key presidential candidates and other leaders of the parties.
The opposition party said governor Ayo Fayose’s outrageous “death advert” associated with Muhammadu Buhari was an evident violation.
