2015 Polls: PDP Chieftain, Others Dump PDP For APC

Less than three weeks before next month’s general elections, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu, with many of his supporters have dumped the ruling party for the opposition All Progressive Congress, APC.
According to Daily Trust report online, Shuaibu, also known as Raba Gardama, announced his decision to leave the PDP in Bauchi on Monday with hundreds of his followers from the 20 local government areas of the state.

While making the announcement, Shuaibu said: “I have left the PDP and will never go back to its fold again. I now pitch tent with the APC. I have hitherto played active part in the ACN as an ally of Turakin Adamawa, Atiku Abubakar, hence my joining APC is home coming.”

It was gathered that Shuaibu was received into the opposition party by the state chairman of the party, Uba Ahmed Nana, the running mate to the party’s governorship candidate, Engineer Nuhu Gidado and the Director-General of the gubernatorial campaign organisation, Garba Sarki Akuyam.
While welcoming the former PDP bigwig into the opposition fold, the APC chieftains described Shuaibu’s defection to the APC as a big catch to the party.
They used the oppotunity to call on politicians across other political parties to join the APC towards salvaging the people from the shackles of poverty and squalor.
In a related development, reports say six of the commissioners who worked with Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State during his first term also defected to the APC on Monday.

It was disclosed that three other prominent members of  the PDP who also joined the opposition party described the PDP at the state and national levels as a sinking party that they could no longer be a part of.
The PDP members that declared their intention to join the APC at a press briefing in Rayfield yesterday were Hon Daniel Ajik from Jos East Local Government Area (LGA), Nankin Bagudu from Mikang LGA, Nuhu Gagara from Mangu, Benahel Andong from Bokkos, Na’Allah Mutbam from Kanke, Dan Manjang from Riyom and Joel Gotau from Langtang North as well as the three others who also held various public positions in the state.
The defectors stated that they decided to join the APC because they have had enough of poor performance of the PDP-led government at both state and federal levels.

Gen. Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan, the two gladiators for next month’s presidential polls.
According to them, their membership of the APC is to enhance the chances of the party’s governorship candidate for the state, Barrister Simon Lalong, as well as APC’s presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.
Lalong, who attended the press briefing, thanked the nine new members for deciding to swell the ranks of the APC and to brighten his chances of being elected in the February 28 governorship poll.
In his remark, state chairman of the party Latep Dabang assured them of equal treatment in the party.
Meanwhile, it was reported that no fewer than 435 people dumped the PDP for the APC in Makarfi LGA, Kaduna State.
It would be recalled that the leadership of the PDP recently met with President Goodluck Jonathan behind closed doors as panic sets in for the ruling party ahead of next month’s general elections following mass defections.
