Bankole’s supporters threaten to dump Ogun PDP

Following the failure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun to pick the former speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, his loyalists and supporters in the state may have concluded plans to dump the party.
Bankole and eight other aspirants had boycotted the last December 8 governorship primary election of the PDP in the state.

The Ogun PDP primary declared earlier that day as illegal by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh was eventually won by Gboyega Nasir Isiaka.
Nasir was confirmed as the Ogun PDP governorship candidate with the submission of his name by the national leadership of the party to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
But indications emerged yesterday that the coalition of groups supporting the former speaker might dump the PDP any moment from now.
Our correspondent gathered that the groups were currently aggrieved over alleged nonchalant disposition of the PDP national leadership to issues bordering on party discipline.
They are said to be disappointed with the party’s national leadership over their alleged failure to enforce its directive that the December 8 governorship primary election should not hold.
Sources close to the coalition of groups said to have over 100,000 members across the state, however, disclosed that consultations were ongoing on the action to take regarding the failure of the party in the state to give him its governorship ticket.
The groups observed that while some aspirants and delegates complied with the directive of the National Working Committee (NWC) on the matter, it was unfortunate that the national leadership of the party now appeared to be giving preference to the aspirants that violated its directive in the list of candidates submitted to INEC.
