Boko Haram seize military base in Borno state


Members of Boko Haram sect have reportedly seized Baga town and a military base used by a multinational force to fight the terror group in Baga town in Borno state. According to BBC Africa,  Senator Ali Ndume who represents Borno North at the National assembly said the sect members captured the town after attacking the residents yesterday Saturday January 3rd and that Nigerian troops fled the scene during the attack. Residents of the community who fled by boat to neighboring Chad, said many people were killed and the town set ablaze.

President Jonathan’s sister dies in Yenagoa hospital


President Jonathan's younger sister, Mrs. Nancy Jonathan-Olei has passed away. The presidency announced her passing in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati. The statement said Mrs. Jonathan-Olei passed away earlier today Sunday January 4th at a hospital in Yenagoa after a brief illness. She was 52. Her burial arrangements will be announced later by the family.
