The executive Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose has
asked the leadership of the country’s major opposition party All
Progressives Congress (APC) to produce the original leader of Boko Haram
terrorist group, Ibrahim Shekau.
The governor made the demand on Tuesday in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, a copy obtained by Vanguard.
Fayose while accusing the opposition party of knowing those behind the Boko Haram insurgency ravaging the northeastern part of the country lamented the open display of hatred against Nigeria and its people by the APC.
The governor stated that rather than wiping out sentiment, the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation is alleging that the Federal Government was planning to use a fake Ibrahim Shekau to implicate the party’s presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd).
Fayose therefore challenged the APC to produce the original Shekau, since the party knows that the Federal Government was presenting a fake one.
“It is obvious that APC does not want the insurgency to end. Up till today, the APC has not made any statement, commending our gallant soldiers that are laying down their lives to save Nigerians from the Boko Haram insurgents. Instead of commending the soldiers and encouraging them, what the APC people are doing is to blackmail the military and one wonders why a party will want to take over power by supporting killing of innocent Nigerians,” he said.
Fayose further noted that with the onslaught on the Boko Haram by our gallant soldiers, the APC appears to have lost the game of using the insurgency to campaign against President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
“Instead of them to face this reality, they have come up with this criminal assertion that a fake leader of Boko Haram, Ibrahim Shekau, was being presented before Nigerians by the government, in order to claim winning the war on terrorism. They are also claiming the fake Shekau might become a tool to blackmail members of the opposition, by coaching the phantom terror chief to say he was working for its presidential candidate, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, in order to link him to terrorism,” he said.
The governor noted that with such statement coming from the APC, it is clear that the party knows what others does not know about the Boko Haram insurgency.
“It also indicates that the APC people do not want the Boko Haram insurgency to end so that they can continue to make political gains from it. Therefore, APC should simply produce the original Shekau that they know because you can only recognise fake when you know the original,” Fayose said.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO) has said that the APC lied about the location of General Buhari’s interview for the TV show ‘All Eyes on Africa’ and it proves that it is a party founded and built on deceit.
Also, Governor Fayose who has been verbally attacking Buhari has released proof to back his claim that the retired general and presidential candidate was not interviewed in London recently.
