True Identity Of Shekau: Lawmaker Challenges Military

A federal lawmaker, Hon. Benjamin Aboho has called on the Nigerian military to brief the House of Representatives on the true identity of the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau.
This comes on the heels of President Goodluck Jonathan’s declaration that Shekau will be captured before the presidential elections scheduled for March 28.
According to Aboho, representing Kwande and Ushongo, Benue state at the Federal House of Reps, this contradicted an earlier claim by Nigeria’s military that Shekau had been killed during a shootout.

Addressing lawmakers yesterday, he said there has been no official retraction of the earlier claim by the military, therefore it was necessary for the house to be briefed on Shekau’s true identity.

But as members of the house voted for the motion to be taken yesterday, the deputy House leader, Rep Leo Ogor, halted further debate on the motion through a legislative technicality.
Ogor said Aboho did not ask for the House to suspend its rules in allowing him present his motion, as it is being done on matters of urgent importance.
The presiding deputy speaker, Emeka Ihedioha, ruled that the motion would be debated today.
Following Jonathan’s declaration that Shekau will be captured, the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation had alleged that the Federal Government was plotting to create a fake Abubakar Shekau to give Nigerians the impression that it’s winning the war on terrorism.
Some time in 2013, Nigerian troops were said to have killed the Boko Haram leader but he debunked the report in a video.
Also in 2014, reports surfaced once again that the man who had been impersonating Shekau had been killed in Konduga after fighting with troops. In a 36-minute video, Shekau once again debunked the reports that he was dead. He announced that he was still alive and will die only when Allah says so.
