Former president Olusegun Obasanjo seems to have started a new trend in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Obasanjo, who dumped the party few weeks back in a well publicised ceremony, gleefully asked the PDP ward chairman in his domain to tear up his party membership card in the full glare of the media and his supporters.
Halid, a youth leader in New Karu, Nassarawa state carried out the political ‘ritual’ in the presence of a large number of his followers.

While Obasanjo’s action was still eliciting reactions from
political stakeholders and commentators, the senior special assistant on
security to Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe state, Alhaji
Abdullahi Babangida Muhammad, who dumped the PDP for the opposition,
All Progressives Congress (APC), also decided to go the Obasanjo way.
Interestingly, another member of the party, Yunusa Halid, recently tore up his membership card, while announcing his defection to the APC.Halid, a youth leader in New Karu, Nassarawa state carried out the political ‘ritual’ in the presence of a large number of his followers.
