A member of the House of Representatives from the state, Hon. Albert Akintoye, representing Irele-Okitipupa Federal Constituency, said that the removal of his name from the list of contestants by the national secretariat of the party in Abuja, could only mean that the party crisis had just started.
Akintoye, a two time chairman of Irele Local Government Area of the state, however accused some party leaders in the state of masterminding the removal of his name in Abuja after the party had cleared him to contest.
Akintoye made the disclosure while reacting to a report in newspapers that the crisis rocking the PDP in the state had been resolved and all warring factions had closed ranks to work for the success of the party during February general elections.
“The President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan and Senate President, David Mark held a meeting with me where they told me that my name has been ratified for second term re-election bid and thereafter Senate President invited me to his house where he also confirmed to me again that my name has been approved for me to seek reelection.
Giving deeper insight, he said: “Can you imagine that a leader went to Abuja and insisted that my name should be removed; that he can not work with me.
“I don’t know my offense but all I know is that if they don’t reverse the decision, the crisis has just stated and there would not be an end to it. It is better if the leadership of our party fine-tunes strategies that will put an end to the crisis rearing its ugly head in our party, since a particular group defected to the party.
“Otherwise if the situation is left unattended to by the leaders of the party, am afraid for the party in the state. Although I will mobilize and canvass votes for the President in two local governments areas but after presidential election, the party will lose other elections in my areas.”
Akintoye charged the national secretariat to address the injustice within the party and called on President Jonathan, the Senate President, David Mark and chieftains of the party at national level to wade into the political impasse that is tearing members of the party apart in the state.
