The inauguration of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign
committee earlier scheduled for Monday in Abuja has been suspended till
Tuesday.
According to Leadership report, it was suspended following the death of Jonathan’s younger sister, Mrs. Nancy Jonathan-Obei, who died on Sunday in Bayelsa state.
This was announced by Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Prof. Rufai Alkali at Legacy House, the PDP Presidential Campaign office and venue of the inauguration.
“As you are all aware, His Excellency lost his sister, Nancy Jonathan-Olei, yesterday morning.
“In view of this, the president has decided to suspend this inauguration for today until tomorrow at 11 a.m.
“Mr President has asked me to convey his apologies for the inconveniences this postponement has caused and to tell you it was due to circumstances beyond our control,” Alkali said.
The dignitaries who had gone to the Legacy House, the president’s campaign headquarters in Maitama waited until 3:00pm for the arrival of the president, only to be told that the inauguration had been suspended.
He beckoned on those gathered at the legacy house to observe one minute silence for the late Nancy.
