ASUU blasts LASU VC over withdrawal of PhD

The Kano zonal coordinator of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Rabiu Nasiru has lashed out at the Vice Chancellor of the Lagos state University(LASU), Professor John Oladapo Obafunwa who he described as a pathological foe of all academics with a Ph.D, a degree which he does not possess.
The zonal coordinator who, in a press conference at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, over the weekend, wondered why a Vice Chancellor will threaten to withdraw the Ph.D of a colleague over
an avoidable crisis which the Vice Chancellor is the architect of.

“The attempt of the Vice Chancellor to unwittingly withdraw the Ph.D certificate of ASUU LASU chairperson which he (the Vice Chancellor never obtained at anytime) clearly portrays his mundane sentimental posture in administering the University and his strong animosity for a degree which he does not know how difficult it is to obtain”, Dr Nasiru stressed.
The zonal coordinator said ASUU views the lingering crisis in the University which the Vice Chancellor has mischievously caused by engaging in abusing promotion procedures in other to favor his cronies in complete disregard to academic culture and standards, as deliberate attempts to sabotage the hard earned credit the Visitor of the University, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola has toiled to achieve and would want to leave as a legacy in the University.
The Union warned that the anti-peace and anti-industrial harmony policies of the Vice Chancellor, coupled with administrative impunity, monarchical posture, reckless disregard for established norms in University governance, crude and primitive witch hunting attitudes of the Vice Chancellor are capable of ruining the now peaceful University, which ASUU will not fold hands to see happen.
The Vice Chancellor’s desperate and futile attempt, according to Dr Nasiru, to deploy University organs to facilitate a press conference called by suspend members of the University, attempt to illegally stop the check-up dues of members by colluding with suspended branch treasurer and the interdiction of a respected member of the union, Professor Tuned Fatunde for lending support to the reduction of LASU students fees from N350 000 to N25 000, will be resisted by the union.
Dr Nasiru therefore called on the Visitor of the University to intervene by setting up a visitation panel to be comprised of reputable, distinguished and patriotic intellectuals to assess and advice him on the true situation in the university and the attitude of the vice Chancellor.
“The visitor’s failure to do so will only plunge the university into further crisis and instability. It is however the belief of ASUU that the visitor, as an advocate and symbol of not just change, but progressive change, will heed to this advice to salvage the unfortunate and deteriorating situation in LASU”, the zonal adviced
