President Buhari hosts U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, says Nigeria Negotiating with Boko Haram to secure release of Abducted Girls

President Buhari hosts U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, says Nigeria Negotiating with Boko Haram to secure release of Abducted Girls - BellaNaijaPresident Muhammadu Buhari on Monday hosted the United States Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson at the Presidential Villa.
In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the president discussed the Boko Haram abductions.
Nigeria wishes to rescue the abducted girls, the statement quoted Buhari as saying, and so chooses to negotiate with Boko Haram rather than use military action.
Read the statement below:
Nigeria prefers to have schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram from Chibok and Dapchi back alive, and that is why it has chosen negotiation, rather than military option, says President Muhammadu Buhari.
Receiving the American Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, in audience at State House, Abuja, Monday, President Buhari added that Nigeria was working in concert with international organizations and negotiators, to ensure that the girls were released unharmed by their captors. “We are trying to be careful. It is better to get our daughters back alive,” the President said.
He thanked America for assistance rendered in the fight against insurgency, noting that Nigerian forces are good, “but need assistance in the areas of training and equipment.” President Buhari promised that his administration would continue to do its best to secure the country, adding that he would be in Yobe State, from where Dapchi schoolgirls were abducted, later this week “as part of my condolence and sympathy visits to areas where we have had unfortunate events.” The President pledged free and fair polls in 2019, recalling that the then American Secretary of State, John Kerry, had visited before the 2015 polls, “and he told the party in government then, and those of us in opposition, to behave ourselves, and we did.” The visiting Secretary of State commended President Buhari on his strides in the anti-corruption war, to which the Nigerian leader responded that moneys recovered are being invested on development of infrastructure.
Mr Tillerson said Nigeria was a very important country to the U.S, stressing: “You have our support in your challenges. We will also support opportunities to expand the economy, commercial investments, and peaceful polls in 2019.” Femi Adesina

On Thursday 8th March, Mavin Records star Korede Bello headlined at a Women’s Day school outreach at Bethany High School in Naalya, a suburb of Kampala the capital of Uganda.
The outreach was organised by local non-profit Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU), a youth led organisation that focuses on mitigating socio-cultural norms to provide young people with Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights information and life skills, for them to be able to make informed decisions. The organisation has worked with other leading Nigerian acts before, such as Tiwa Savage, Chidinma and Emmanuel Ikubese. They also boast of a wide base of musical cultural icons dominating the Ugandan scene such as Geosteady, Navio, Naava Grey, Martha Smallz, Allan Toniks and Mun G, so it was only proper that Korede’s was a suited invitation for their outreach.
He started off with an inspirational talk with the musical cultural icons on the eve of the Women’s Day, at a sit down meet held by RAHU at Naguru Skyz Hotel Kampala, a franchise of the Protea Hotels. He reminded the icons that they had to always consider the impact of their music on the audience, especially among the young people who idolize them.
The following day, he joined Navio, Geosteady, FilleNutty Neithan, Mun G and Naava Grey to entertain students who had turned up for the outreach. The artistes participated in the informative sessions where they talked to young people about health issues such as menstrual hygiene, teenage pregnancy and relationships, before serenading the crowd with some of their finest tunes.

Both parties are expected in court on May 16, with their witnesses to tender their evidence and testify.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he had no idea the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, flouted his orders and did not stay in Benue State, Punch reports.

I did not know that IG did not stay in the state.
I have friends here in the state, there is no way I can deliberately overlook what is happening here and other parts of the country.
Let me appeal to our people in the state to apply more restraint, the relationship between farmers and herders will continue, it behoves on us to keep encouraging ourselves to continue to live together peacefully.

Glo’s Professor Johnbull cautions against talebearers

Season five of the Globacom-sponsored TV drama series, Professor Johnbull, ends today, Friday, with an episode is entitled ‘Story People,’ which revolves around Ikoku, played by Nollywood actor, Browny Igboewu, who goes about telling tales and claiming to know virtually all important people, including presidents of foreign nations. •Professor Johnbull cast The series airs at 8.30p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes. Viewers will watch Ikoku spread his tales from the gullible Mai Doya (Funky Mallam) to Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso), and how he succeeds in making the philanderer, Flash (Stephen Odimgbe), believe that he can pass his examinations without reading by drinking a substance that will make his brain work better. Besides, viewers will be anxious to find out why Olaniyi shuts his restaurant; if there is a goat-killing licence for pepper soup joint owners and if indeed there is a ban on beer consumption because of health concerns. In ‘Story People,’ the sitcom’s protagonist, Professor Johnbull (Kanayo O. Kanayo), is in his element as he calls for public sympathy for “compulsive prevaricators” such as Ikoku, who he describes as a “psychopath.” He cautions against public gullibility and urges people to be on the alert whenever the all-knowing-tale bearers come calling.
