Bangladesh opposition head granted bail in graft cases

Bangladesh's former prime minister and main opposition leader Khaleda Zia has been granted bail in two graft cases after appearing before a special court.

Kenyans have begun three days of national mourning and dedicated Easter Sunday prayer services to the 148 victims of the recent university massacre by al-Shabab fighters.
Easter ceremonies across the country were due to be held in the memory of the students and security personnel killed in a country where 80 percent of the population is Christian, with flags flying at half-mast.

5 killed by Boko Haram members in Konduga, Borno

Suspected members of Boko Haram killed 5 people in Kayamla in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State today April 4th. According to reports, the sect members stormed the village, destroyed properties and shot indiscriminately. They were however repelled by the vigilante group in the community who came together and fought them off. This will be the first attack in Borno state after the presidential election.

Meet the baby born with no eyes


 One child born with horns, another one born without a nose and now a new baby born without eyes. Care worker Danielle Davis, 24, and her partner, Andrew Smith, 31, from South Wales  welcomed a daughter two months ago - a baby with no eyes. Danielle said she knew there was something horrible wrong with her child because a routine scan when she was pregnant showed her child had a cyst on the brain but she refused to have an abortion. After the child was born, doctors confirmed she had anophthalmia, a birth defect which affects just one in 10,000 babies.

Italian police find bullet-riddled body of Nigerian woman in pine forest

This story made the news on Italian newspapers on Wednesday. The Italian police said they were called to a scene of a crime where they found the bullet-riddled body of a woman near a bicycling trail in woods between the Tuscan cities of Lucca and Pisa. The body was discovered by tourists in a pine forest near Torre del Lago in Lucca province. The woman had five gunshot wounds.

Al-jazeera Journalists sue Nigerian military for illegal detention


Two Al-jazeera journalists, Ahmed Idris - a reporter and Ali Mustapha - a camera man, both pictured above, have instituted a lawsuit against the Chief of Army staff, Gen Kenneth Minimah and the Nigerian military for what they term the infringement of their fundamental human rights following their illegal detention by the Nigerian military. They filed the suit in an Abuja high court this morning

Both men are being detained in their hotel in Maiduguri, Borno state where they have been kept since March 24th over allegations of loitering around areas where combat operations was still ongoing.
