2015: Reps who want to be governors

The new twists in the battle of supremacy between Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and All Progressives Congress, APC, members in the House of Representatives is, predictably, generating dust.
But, surprisingly, the development is not the issue, dominating the chamber.  Instead, what seems to be gaining the attention of many since the return of members of the Green Chamber from a two-week Sallah holiday is the governorship ambition of some members.
Although discussions on the matter have always been there, they have taken a new dimension, eclipsing other issues. It is for that reason that little is being heard of the 2015 Appropriation Bill currently before the chamber. Similarly, the level of implementation of the budget of the outgoing year is not being discussed by the lawmakers. This is a departure from the usual practice where the lawmakers at this period of the year often engage the executives in fisticuffs over the performance of the budget.

2015: Kabiru Gaya barnstorms through Kano guber race

Former Governor of Kano (1992-93) and now Senator, representing Kano South Senatorial district, Architect, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, is returning to a familiar turf. He is barnstorming through the densely populated cosmopolitan state of Kano, the old trading centre of commerce of Northern Nigeria, ahead of the race to gubernatorial glory of the state in the run up to the 2015 general elections.

Zenith Bank divests from securities arm

More than two years after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) ordered banks not operating the holding company (HoldCo) structure to divest from non-core banking services, Zenith Bank Plc  has taken steps to divest from its stockbrokerage arm, Zenith Securities Limited.
In its notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday, Zenith bank stated that it  has reached an agreement with some investors in respect of the sale and divestment of its investment/equity interest in the company.

Jonathan launches National Schools Agric scheme

 President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday, launched  the National Schools Agriculture Programme (NSAP) aimed at developing a new generation of youth agriculture enthusiasts from secondary schools.The pilot phase of the programme, a School Agribusiness Club (SAC), is to be established in selected schools from 12 states across the six geo-political zones. Each club will comprise 120 students. ‎

Mark insists on full implementation of 2014 budget

Ahead of the presentation of the 2015 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly, Senate President, David Mark, has called for the full implementation of the national budget.

FDI: Nigeria received over $67bn in 13yrs –CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said Nigeria received Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of over $67 billion between 2000 and 2013.
The Governor of CBN, Godwin Emefiele, disclosed this at his conferment on him of the Honorary Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) at the 2014 CIBN Investiture, weekend.
