Pastor in police net over alleged rape

A 29-year-old cleric identified as Anthony Arogunmasa, popular­ly known as pastor at Ikere-Eki­ti community in Ekiti State, has been nabbed for allegedly raping a 19 -year-old lady in the area.
The victim (names withheld) said that Arogunmasa lured her into his Araromi Street, Ikere-Ekiti residence under the pretence of giving her spiritual cleansing. Describing how the incident happened, the victim in tears, said: “I was just meeting the pastor for the first time in my life. He approached me and told me that I needed some spiritual cleansing. He said that God instructed him to ensure that the spiritual cleansing was done for me. I fell for him because I saw people calling him pastor. He took me to his house and gave me a candle and soap and asked me to start praying. He also brought out certain ob­jects which he said were prayer items for the spiritual cleansing. In the course of the prayers, he asked me to remove my cloth­ing and just tie a wrapper and I obliged. It wasn’t long after that he suddenly jumped on me and eventually had carnal knowl­edge of me forcefully.”
Though he confessed to having carnal knowledge of the victim, the suspect said that the victim is his girlfriend.” It is true that I slept with her on September 23, but I didn’t do it forcefully because she has al­ways been my girlfriend”, the cleric con­fessed.

Ozil accused of cheating on girlfriend, Capristo


Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has been dragged into a public row with a fellow German footballer and accused of cheating on his pop star girlfriend Mandy Capristo.
Former Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin player Christian Lell accused Ozil of ‘muscling in’ on his relationship with for­mer girlfriend Melanie Rickinger.

Moses returns to action tomorrow

The loan winger has been a revelation since joining the Potters in the summer, but he limped off with a recurrence of a thigh problem inside the first 20 minutes of Stoke’s 3-1 loss at Sunderland on October 4.
It was feared the Chel­sea man could be side­lined for some time, but Moses Tweeted on Wednesday that he was back in training with Mark Hughes’ squad.
He wrote to fans:
Feels good to be back training and now look­ing forward to the game on Sunday. Thanks for all your support.
With Mame Diouf also working his way back to fitness and Peter Odem­wingie a long-term fixture in the treatment room, Hughes will be hoping Moses can defy the odds to return for tomorrow’s televised game at the Bri­tannia Stadium.
He has been the focus of much of Stoke’s bright­est attacking play in re­cent weeks, with some fans referring to him as their Messi.

Obama open to appointing Ebola ‘tsar’, opposes travel ban


President Barack Obama said he was considering appointing an Ebola “tsar” to coordinate the fight against the virus in the United States, but he remained opposed to a ban on travel from West Africa.
Obama’s administration is facing sharp criticism from lawmakers over its efforts to contain the disease at home. Obama authorized calling up military reservists for the U.S. fight against Ebola in West Africa on Thursday.

Cameroon soldiers kill 107 Boko Haram fighters

 
 Yaoundé – Cameroon said Friday its army killed 107 Boko Haram fighters in ferocious fighting this week in its north, in a claimed success against the Nigeria-based Islamist guerrilla group.
The “fighting of rare violence” occurred in two areas in the north on Wednesday and Thursday and also resulted in the deaths of eight soldiers, the defence ministry said in a statement read on state radio.
It was not possible to independently verify the information or the toll.


Hope rises for Chibok girls’, as Presidency confirms ceasefire deal with Boko Haram

 There were indications Friday that the over 200 girls seized by Boko Haram from a school in Chibok, Borno State last April will soon regain freedom.
The plan to secure freedom for the girls was part of the deal entered into following a ceasefire agreement reached between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Boko Haram sect in Saudi Arabia.
