PDP Voids Party Endorsement Processes Nationwide, Except President Jonathan's

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday told its state chapters it cannot undertake the endorsement of candidates for the 2015 elections, citing “the sanctity of our nomination processes.” The endorsement frenzy began after the party by-passed the nomination process at the national level and used the same endorsement fast lane to send President Goodluck Jonathan to the same election, unchallenged, despite his unpopularity.

The endorsement frenzy began after the party by-passed the nomination process at the national level and used the same endorsement fast lane to send President Goodluck Jonathan to the same election, unchallenged, despite his unpopularity.
 
  In a statement issued after an NWC meeting in Abuja, National Secretary Wale Oladipo said the party notedthat some elected officers at the state level (referring to the governors), had continued to engage in endorsement processes despite warnings from the national leadership that they, as unbiased umpires, should desist.

Only three health care workers have been administered with the experimental vaccine as part of the Mali clinical trial, as the safety of the vaccine on humans is yet to be determined.

The kidnap victims were released today after intense tripartite negotiations involving Cameroon, Chinese interests, and representatives of the Islamist group. A source in Cameroon disclosed that a hefty but undisclosed ransom was paid to the Islamist militants.

Nigeria Talks Tough, Warns South Africa Over Seized $5.7 Million Arms Money

Nigeria responded with fury Monday after South African authorities confiscated a second tranche of funds meant for arms purchase to fight the extremist Boko Haram sect, denying the deal was unlawful and warning South Africa of its investment in Nigeria.
The warning came after the South African government seized US$5.7 million wired by the Nigerian government through a bank to an arms dealer in that country.
Sambo Dasuki, National Security Adviser South Africa’s Asset Forfeiture Unit of the National Prosecuting Authority said the money, about N952 million, was the proceed of illegal transactions, according to local paper, City Press.
The seizure was the second in nearly three weeks, coming after authorities there froze $9.3 million transported in cash by two Nigerians and an Israeli for arms purchase. At the time, South Africa said the transaction violated its laws on movement of cash.

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has finally joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He announced his decision following a visit to his Onitsha residence by leaders of the PDP in the South East zone on Tuesday, according to a statement by Obi’s media aide, Valentine Obienyem.
Peter Obi Obi, who initially said he would get back to the leaders on their request that he joins PDP, finally accepted following  the insistence of the forum that time was of essence.

Former Liberian Public Works Minister, Attorney Samuel Kofi Woods, says it is premature for anyone to discuss prosecuting Thomas Duncan, the Liberian man who arrived in the US infected with Ebola. He said discussions bordering on a possible prosecution of Mr. Duncan when he arrives back in Liberia or by US authorities for misrepresenting his Ebola status, should be carefully examined before drawing conclusions.
