Boko Haram Members Fight For Leadership, 30 Killed
berely a week after report surfaced that the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau had been killed during a fierce gun battle in Konduga, Borno state, succession crisis has allegedly hit the camp of the insurgents.
According to a report by Daily Sun, thirty insurgents lost their lives yesterday, September 25 in Madagali, Adamawa state as they battled over who should succeed Shekau.
Some residents in the area said trouble started when some of the sect members suggested they should cease fire and handover their weapons to the Federal Government.
Another reason for the gun battle was for the succession of Shekau.
One of the residents named Mr Musa Aui said: “From what we learnt, 30 Boko Haram fighters have been killed in Madagali town after a fight ensued between them over whether to surrender their weapons. They just kept shooting themselves freely.”
Stephen, another resident who corroborated Musa’s story said there is leadership tussle over who should emerge the new leader in Madagali.
“For almost three weeks now, Madagali, Gulak, Shuwa and Michika towns have been under the control of Boko Haram.
“They cut-off fingers, flog offenders and marry off spinsters,” he said.
The military spokesman in Yola, Capt. Jonathan Nuhu, was yet to react to the development as at press time.
Madagali is one of the local government areas occupied by the Boko Haram militants, which they have turned to their operational headquarters, in Adamawa State.
The Nigerian military has in recent times repelled several attacks, killing scores of insurgents in the course of the operations in the northern part of the country.
Officials of the Adamawa State Police Command had some days back said it arrested some suspected members of the Boko Haram terrorists group in Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Yola.
AFCON 2015: Eagles Will Make It - Enyeama
The super eagles find themselves in a difficult position in their
group, having acquired only one point from two games, a loss against
Congo and drawing against South Africa.
Enyeama has said that Nigeria will make it through to the Morocco 2015 Africa Cup of Nations despite huge criticisms from Head Coach Stephen Keshi critics.
Enyeama had missed both games due to having some ‘family reasons’ but says he still believes that qualification is not out of Nigeria’s reach.

United States of America has expressed skepticism over
reports coming out of Nigeria that the military has killed Boko Haram
leader, Abubakar Shekau.
A senior official from the state department told reporters: “The
Nigerians have announced several times that the head of Boko Haram was
dead and every single time we find out that it is not true”.
“What I read recently is that Shekau’s lookalike or some Shekau impostor was killed and then I read later that maybe Shekau himself was killed. I don’t put a lot of weight on those stories until we see more evidence,” the official added, asking not to be identified.
Security officials in Nigeria had on wednessday said that Shekau has been eliminated and that Bashir Mohammed, killed during recent clashes with troops, was a lookalike who had been impersonating him in videos.
The announcement is the first time, the army had revealed that Shekau has been taken down, after refusing to comment on two occasions when the police and a rregional task force had claimed so, in 2009 and 2013.
The analyst also went forward to ask that if Shekau was truly gone, who was carrying out attacks on behalf of Boko Haram.
The United States hace been trying to assist Nigeria in the release of the 200 Chibok Schoolgirls kidnapped by the insurgents in April but the official described it as a huge challenge.
“Many of them were taken into the forest and given the time that is passed it is possible that many of them have been taken to other locations,” the official said.
