South Carolina Police: 'Foul Play' Eyed in Disappearance of Five Kids

The FBI is helping South Carolina police search for five children who have been missing almost a week amid fears of "foul play." The kids, ages 1 to 8, were last seen with their father — but he has since been detained with no sign of the youngsters, authorities said. The father had custody of the children, but their mother reported them missing Sept. 3, saying she had not been able to reach her ex-husband, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

"Detectives suspect foul play in the children's disappearance," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
Neighbors told police that the father said he was moving to another state. He was picked up Saturday at a police checkpoint outside of South Carolina, where law enforcement discovered that his name was in a national alert for the children.
