PDP Rally In Edo: GEJ Recieves Gift From Iyase Of Benin

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, visited on Wednesday, February 4, the capital of Edo State, Benin, as part of his presidential campaign.
Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, took to his Twitter account to share some photos from the event, using #ThisIsEdo and #EdoforJonathan hashtags.
During his visit, the President held a meeting with Iyase of Benin who presented a gift to him at the palace of Oba of Benin.

I’ll defeat Ambode —Agbaje

Jimi Agbaje, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state, yesterday expressed confidence in his ability to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akinwumi Ambode, in the Lagos gubernatorial poll.

Agbaje faulted the state government’s failure to pay the N18,000 minimum wage and leave bonus meant for civil servants in the state. He promised to ensure prompt payment of the wage if elected into office.

Osinbajo Blasts Jonathan For Going To Islamic Meeting

All Progressives Congress (APC) vice presidential candidate, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has blasted President Goodluck Jonathan for going to the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) meeting.

President Jonathan had attended the OIC meeting, making him the first president to do so since Nigeria was surreptitiously enlisted by President Ibrahim Babangida in 1986.

Osinbajo revealed this today during a meet and greet session in Warri, Delta state.
He claimed that those who have said that Buhari is a Muslim fundamentalist and campaigner for the Islamisation of Nigeria were doing nothing but distorting history.

Barely ten days before the all important general elections hold across Nigeria, the wife of the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Mrs. Aishatu Buhari, has urged Nigerian women to resist the temptation of selling their voter cards.
Mrs. Buhari, who made the appeal through the Coordinator of the APC Women Presidential Campaign Initiative, Hajia Salamatu Jibril, at the sensitisation workshop in Abuja, also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to shift the February 14 date for the presidential election.
According to Punch newspaper report online, she stressed the importance of women participating actively in the general elections.

Okonjo-Iweala Backs Out Of Soludo Debate


During a live radio programme on Raypower FM, the minister of finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, rejected the debate offer made by the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Professor Charles Soludo on the state of the economy and her tenure in office.

Okonjo-Iweala said she would not join issues with the former central bank governor as she was constrained to reply to Prof Soludo over allegations that N30 trillion had been stolen under her watch as the minister of finance.

Army Surrounds 6000 Boko Haram Insurgents In Borno


Latest reports coming out of  Borno State, northern Nigeria inform that the Nigerian military on Tuesday night surrounded no fewer than 6000 members of the Islamist militants group, Boko Haram, in Madagali and Gulak area of the state.
This detail was disclosed by a Twitter account belonging to a Private military Contractor(Humint) with the account name @DonKlericuzio.
According to series of tweets posted on the account some hours ago, the Nigerian Army are using all forms of military tactics and methods against the dreaded terrorists sect which has resulted to trapping of thousands of the insurgents.

It was further revealed that Nigerian Defense HQ source says there are plans with neighbouring countries for about 35,000 – 40,000 Boko Haram fighters to put down their arms and surrender to the military.
