NIS seizes PVCs, other documents from Nigerien nationals in Sokoto

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Sokoto State Command has seized no fewer than 452 permanent voter cards (PVCs), national identity cards and birth certificates from some nationals of Niger Republic.

3 Prison inmates to graduate at NOUN convocation on Saturday

Three prison inmates serving various jail terms are among the over 7,000 graduates expected to be awarded degrees at the 4th convocation ceremony of the National Open University of Nigerian (NOUN) on Saturday.
The three inmates according to the Vice Chancellor of NOUN, Prof Vincent Tenebe, who briefed the press on the forthcoming event, said the inmates are serving at Kirikiri and Enugu Prisons. He recalled that in 2014, NOUN graduated one inmate.

Algeria’s keeper withdraws from AFCON

Algeria has suffered another injury blow ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations finals with goalkeeper Mohamed Lamine Zemmamouche ruled out after getting hurt in training.
The keeper became the third player named in the original 23-man squad selected last month to be forced to withdraw from the tournament in Equatorial Guinea, which starts tomorrow.
Zemmamouche suffered an injury to his shin, the Algerian Football Federation said yesterday. CS Constantine’s Cedric Si Mohamed, who was in the squad at last year’s World Cup finals, had been called up as Zemmamouche’s replacement ahead of Algeria’s Group C opener against South Africa in Mongomo on Monday.

Fire razes warehouses in Lagos


Three warehouses were yesterday gutted by fire in Kirikiri area of Lagos State, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
The fire, which started at about 3p.m. at Johnson Street, Off Cardoso Road in Kirikiri town,  razed the warehouses storing imported bicycles, motorcycles and vehicle tubes and tyres. The warehouses belong to Henry and Henry Limited.
