Jonathan announces re-election bid


President Goodluck Jonathan has formally declared that he will seek a second term of office at next year’s general election.

Dear Compatriots:
1.         Four years ago, precisely September 18, 2010; I stood in this Eagle Square, to offer myself for election as the President of our beloved country on the platform of our great party; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Sewol trial: Ferry captain sentenced to 36 years in jail


The captain of the South Korean ferry which sank in April has been found guilty of gross negligence and sentenced to 36 years in prison.
The Sewol ferry was carrying 476 people when it went down. More than 300 died, most of them school students.

Badeh Dismisses Helicopter Reports

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Alex Badeh, has denied reports in some sections of the media that he sent helicopter to his hometown in Adamawa State to evacuate members of his family hours before the fall of the town to Boko Haram insurgents.

“I don’t know my political future” – Fashola

With six months left in his tenure, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has said he did not know what his next step in politics would be.
Fashola, who said this during an interview with Channels Television, noted that in spite of the efforts of the Peoples Democratic Party, his party, the All Progressives Congress, would retain Lagos State in 2015.

Boko Haram bombing: Yobe shuts all schools

The Yobe State Government has closed down all public and private schools in the state, following Monday’s suicide bomb attack on Government Science Secondary School, Potiskum.
The attack claimed 48 lives and injured 79 others.

I Have Not Endorsed Anybody – Tinubu

Former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that he did not endorse any of the aspirants to become the next governor of Lagos State. There have been speculations in the media that the former governor of the state had endorsed the former accountant general of the state, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode
