Boko Haram Releases Wife Of Cameroonian Deputy Prime Minister, 10 Chinese Workers

Boko Haram militants have released the wife of Cameroonian Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali, ten Chinese workers and district heads kidnapped a few months ago.

The kidnap victims were released today after intense tripartite negotiations involving Cameroon, Chinese interests, and representatives of the Islamist group. A source in Cameroon disclosed that a hefty but undisclosed ransom was paid to the Islamist militants.

Fintiri Returns To Adamawa State House Of Assembly As Speaker, Challenging Court's Order

 
Fintiri, who was sacked yesterday by a federal high court in Abuja commended people of the state for supporting him during his leadership as acting governor. He also said he had launched an appeal to the court order issued in Abuja yesterday. Previously sacked acting governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has returned to the Adamawa State House of Assembly as Speaker of the assembly. Fintiri, who was sacked yesterday by a federal high court in Abuja commended people of the state for supporting him during his leadership as acting governor.

Ex-Anambra Governor Obi Joins PDP

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has finally joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He announced his decision following a visit to his Onitsha residence by leaders of the PDP in the South East zone on Tuesday, according to a statement by Obi’s media aide, Valentine Obienyem.
Obi, who initially said he would get back to the leaders on their request that he joins PDP, finally accepted following  the insistence of the forum that time was of essence.
Obi said the issue of joining a national party is not about happening in his former party All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), but because of the need to be a competitor and not a spectator in national affairs.

Fayose seeks media objectivity on Ekiti affairs

Thousands of Nigerians from all walks of life on Thursday trooped to the 60,000 capacity Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, to witness the inauguration of Mr Ayodele Fayose as governor.
The stadium was filled to the capacity with dignitaries, especially from PDP-controlled states in attendance.

Jonathan Imposing Unpopular Leaders On Yorubas

The pioneer National Chairman of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande on Thursday tongue lashed out that it was regrettable that President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was returning the country into the era of impunity by imposing unpopular leaders on the people, especially in “each of the states in the Yorubaland”.
Akande who spoke in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, at an inaugural lecture organised in remembrance of the late Premier of the defunct Western Region, Alhaji Dauda Adegbenro, insisted that, despite all challenges, few patriotic leaders, including himself have resolved to work relentlessly towards achieving a “just and democratic Nigeria”.

Reacting to yesterday’s declaration by Buhari and an earlier one by Atiku, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, told State House correspondents that both Buhari and Atiku had been unsuccessful in their previous shots at the presidency, noting that the latest at­tempt would not be different.
